This page has been created to host MouseHook - a small utility created as a replacement for Microsoft IntelliPoint software.

Work is in progress, please visit this website again soon.

In the meantime, here is a small FAQ.

  1. Why has this site been created?
    • To offer an alternative to Microsoft IntelliPoint software.
  2. What is the problem with Microsoft IntelliPoint?
    1. IT IS BUGGY. Many many people complained that after customizing mouse buttons with Microsoft IntelliPoint 5.x, the CONTROL, ALT and SHIFT keys are getting "stuck" regularly. One has to press them repeatedly to "clear" this effect.
    2. IT IS SPYING ON YOU. A couple of days after the installation (*not* immediately!) Microsoft IntelliPoint is trying to access some Microsoft servers. We wonder why would a mouse software need an Internet access?
    3. IT IS NOT PORTABLE. Mouse buttons settings are stored in the registry. This makes it difficult to save them and apply whenever you install a new version of Microsoft Windows.
    4. IT IS HUGE. 7 megs (or is it more) for a mouse driver?!
    5. IT IS ... you name it.
      Actually, the worst part of the problem is Microsoft's refusal to acknowledge its existence. There has been 5 new "versions" of IntelliPoint, however the bug is still there.
  3. What is the current stage of development?
    • Among other things, we're working on XML-based config and per-application button configuration.
  4. What is in the current version available for download?
    • It was created with Microsoft mice that have small, large and wheel button. The default actions are now hard-coded: small button shows the desktop, large button closes current application and wheel button emulates "double-click" action.
  5. How do I install MouseHook?
    • There is no installation. Simply launch mhook.exe. Just make sure that Microsoft IntelliPoint is not in the list of processes (look for point32.exe) and in the device drivers panel you have generic mouse driver installed (not the one provided by IntelliPoint).
  6. I don't have any of Microsoft rodents. Can I still use MouseHook?
    • Yes! It works with any mouse that has more than two standard buttons.
  7. I am interested! Can I contribute?
    • Of course! We need to test MouseHook thoroughly on different platforms with different types of mice. Download the software and send us your feedback!

Hi all,

Very often clicks on any of buttons produce unexpected result, as if I am ho

keyboard

. I have to press CONTROL key several times to "clear" this effect.Does anyone have the same problem? What to do to solve it?Thanks,
Temuri

Re: Stuck control key Intellipoint 5.4, Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0

Hello all you MS MVPs,VIPs,RSVPs and others.

Is this supposed to be an official MS hardware support forum? If so - why noone is answering my question? Temuri

Re: Re: Stuck control key Intellipoint 5.4, Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0

I can confirm this, I'm having the same issue. (CTRL+ALT getting "stuck" (qu
ite often !), pressing the key on the keyboard "releases" it)

My Config:
Wirel. Laser Mouse 6000 +
Intellipoint 5.5

Also, we are not alone: take a look at this mesage:

http://hardware.mcse.ms/message60168.html

This thread was started in 2004 (with Intellipoint 5.2) !!!!This problem does NOT seem to be specific to a certain IPoint Version or to
a specific Mouse Model.This is really an annoying Bug, it has been reported

multiple times by multiple
users.

So I think it's high time there is something done about it.Cheers!

Re: Re: Re: Stuck control key Intellipoint 5.4, Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0

Hi Klaas,

Microsoft is evil, that's a fact :-)

In the meantime, we tried to resolve this problem by writing a small "mouse
driver" that would totally replace that buggy Intellipoint Software.

Have a look:

http://www.dblclk.de

The software is of course virus-free, and
does not try to access Internet as Intellipoint does (I wonder what the fcu
k IP is trying to do when connecting to MS servers), and is only 35 kbytes.You can try it yourself if your mouse has one or two extra buttons. Just mak
e sure IP is not running and in device manager you have *DEFAULT* mouse driv
er installed (no mentioning of "microsoft").Currently, actions are hardcoded: small mouse button would show desktop, lar
ge would close active window and wheel button would double-click.We're working to support XML configuration, per-application actions, and so
on.Would you like to be involved in testing?Best wishes,
Temuri

Re: Ctrl key stuck w/ Intellipoint 5.2

Hi,

This is likely a

hardware

issue - does it occur with other

keyboards

Re: Ctrl key stuck w/ Intellipoint 5.2

This is NOT a

Keyboard

issue. This is a Mouse issue.
I set my right side-button as Exit App, but instead of
pressing Alt-F4, sometimes it pressed Ctrl-Alt-F4! And
then press and release Ctrl on keyboard will fix the
problem.Henry

And this starts happening to me with SP2 + Intellipoint

Re: Ctrl key stuck w/ Intellipoint 5.2

Then you might want to be a bit more descriptive about the symptoms.
Because a "stuck key" is a physical problem. There is in fact a "stuck key"
error a machine can receive on POST which is in fact the key being stuck
down.

Are you seeing combinations working when they shouldn't (like CTRL-C for
copy or CTRL-V for paste)? What are the symptoms?

Re: Re: Ctrl key stuck w/ Intellipoint 5.2

FINALLY.. Here's my proof!

I bought this new IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 (wired). Installed lastest Inte
lliPoint 5.2.
Set small side button to "Close" predefined action.

Here's the recorded script of opening a few shortcuts on the

desktop

, and close by clic
king the pre-defined button. Recorded by TestRec

downloaded

here:

var tInput = WScript.CreateObject ( "Tester.TInput" ) ;
// The TSystem object.
var tSystem = WScript.CreateObject ( "Tester.TSystem" ) ;// A general TWindow object.
var tWin ;
// A general child TWindow object.
var tChildWin ;tInput.AbsoluteScreenCoordinates = true ;tInput.MultiMonitor = true ;tSystem.CheckVirtualResolution ( 1024 , 768 , 0 , 0 ) ;tWin = tSystem.FindTopWindow ( "Progman" , "Program Manager" ) ;
tWin.SetForegroundTWindow ( ) ;
tInput.PlayInput ( "{DBLCLICK LEFT , 34 , 100}" ) ;

tInput.PlayInput ( "{ALT DOWN}{F4}{ALT UP}" ) ;

tInput.PlayInput ( "{DBLCLICK LEFT , 42 , 430}" ) ;
tSystem.Sleep ( 3.38 ) ;

tInput.PlayInput ( "{ALT DOWN}{F4}" ) ;

The last time, the predefined "Close" action didn't complete. There's no AL
T UP !I've tried my best to give you as much details as you need, now what I shoul
d do?
